COMMUNITY - ABOUT WASHINGTON
Washington is located in Southeast Iowa, just south of Iowa City, and only a short drive from other large cities like Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Burlington, etc. Washington County covers 557 square miles in the richest of America's agricultural region. The population of the county was over 20,000 people according to the 2000 census.
Washington has been consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the US according to the book, "The 100 Best Small Towns in America" written by Norman Crampton. Norman has written the book three different times, and all three times Washington was put on the list. With a beautiful central park that's surrounded by a busy downtown section, as well as our many parks, recreation activities, & attractions, it's easy to see why we're fortunate enough to be part of this elite group of small towns.
